Man rapes drunken teen at knife point in Bougainville
A DRUNKEN teenager was allegedly raped by a 42-year-old father in Buka on Saturday, Acting North Bougainville regional police commander Inspector Spencer Aili said.
The incident occurred at 11pm.
The suspect met the victim walking alone towards her house and asked about the whereabouts of his wife, Aili said.
When the victim replied that she did not know, the suspect dragged her into the darkness beside the road and raped her, Aili said. The suspect was also alleged to have been drinking.
The suspect allegedly threatened to cut her with a bush knife if she called for help or tried to escape, he said.
The victim reported the incident to her mother and the suspect was apprehended and is in police custody.
He is expected to be charged after investigations, Aili said.
He warned women to take extra precaution.
“When going out partying or drinking, you must know who you are going with, parents must monitor their children,” he said.
“Most suspects involved in these offences are alleged to have been under the influence of liquor,” he said.
According to monthly police reports, sexual offences in the region are increasing and most victims are below the age of 18.
