Asian found dead in the Solomon Islands
AN Asian of Malaysian origin was dead in the toilet of a tug-boat berthing at Point Cruz on Tuesday night.
Local crew of the tug-boat, MV Bani 1, said to be owned by logging company Golden Harvest, found the dead body in the toilet.
There were suggestions the Asian may have committed suicide, but others suspected foul play.
A local crew member told the Solomon Star at the scene the Malaysian was helping them load the boat for its trip to the Shortlands.
“He accompanied one of the bosses to the wharf and when he saw as loading ration into the boat, he joined in,” the crew said.
“Later he asked for the toilet and we directed him to the location.
“He left and never returned.
“Eventually the boss left without the deceased. We didn’t know his whereabouts either until return into the boat and one of the crew members found him hanging inside the toilet.”
The company’s boss, who returned later after he was told of the incident, refused to comment when the Solomon Star approached him.
But he said this was a sad incident.
Police attended the scene and are investigating the incident.
