2 women charged with robbery in PNG
Port Moresby (The National): TWO women are among four people who appeared in the Waigani Committal Court yesterday charged with robbery.
The two women – Waki Kopa and Jobina Kopa – appeared with two men Sinino Kopa and Newman Alphonse accused of stealing cash and beer worth more than K20,000. They are from Wabag in Enga.
Police alleged that on Sept 14, the four used violence and threatened another woman to steal K19,504 and five cartons of beer worth about K600 at Burns Peak settlement, Hohola, in NCD.
They are alleged to have used bush knives, sticks and stones to commit the offence.
The court was told that the four had gone to women’s house to solve a dispute. But it developed into a confrontation that involved other people.
The four claimed they had taken Alphonse to the hospital as he was injured and had no idea who stole the cash and beer.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar said it was possible that other people could have taken advantage of the situation and stole the cash and beer.
Bidar granted the four K250 bail each. The matter is adjourned to Oct 23.
