Tongan Police Officer guilty of stealing memory card

A 25-year-old suspended Police Constable was sentenced to pay $500 pa'anga compensation after pleading guilty to stealing a female police officer's mobile phone memory card and distributing her personal information to other police officers.
Penisoni Penitani appeared before Magistrate Salesi Mafi at the Nukunuku Magistrate’s Court on October 10 and pleaded guilty to the theft charge.
He was sentenced to pay $500 compensation to the complainant or failure to do so could incur a three-months imprisonment sentence.
The lower court was told on August 28, 2013 the accused was working at the police station in Nukunuku when he stole the memory card worth $20 pa’anga from the mobile phone of a female officer WPC Fuka Mo'unga.
The accused then distributed the personal information, which included pictures and videos to other police officers, which caused a lot of concern to the victim.
He was suspended on September 10, 2013.
